In our continuing series, we’re following a real GBO patient, Gio, from diagnosis all the way through treatment at Great Basin Orthopaedics. Be sure to check back for updates as we follow the journey, which is documented by his mother, Paige.

At our 4-week post-op appointment, Dr. Hayes again expressed satisfaction with the progress of Gio’s healing, saying “it couldn’t be going any better.” While the healing has been going well, my teen is bored. I was hoping we would get the OK to swim at this four-week follow-up. Not quite yet. The surgical wounds still had some scabs on them, and Dr. Hayes wanted them fully healed before Gio got in a lake or pool. I totally get this, but I was bummed for my kid whose summer has officially sucked between ankle surgery and COVID.
We headed out the door looking forward to our upcoming PT appointment and making even more progress on the road to recovery.
