Personalized options for hip replacement patients

Gone are the days of the S, M, L, XL approach to total hip replacement, thanks to a new surgical technology available for GBO patients. The Conformis Hip System, available exclusively at GBO, uses advanced imaging and design technology to create personalized hip replacement implants for patients. With this individualized and FDA-cleared approach, GBO patient CT scans are converted into a 3-dimensional computer model. Then, the unique measurements of that specific patient’s anatomy are transformed into a customized implant.

“With the Conformis hip system, the patient gets a new joint that has been created for their specific anatomy, rather than something off the shelf,” explained Dr. Travis Kieckbusch, who performed the first Northern Nevada Conformis hip surgery in December 2018.

Surgeons are able to collaborate with Conformis during the planning process in order to design the optimal system for each patient based on surgeon preferences.

“It’s a new concept, and we’re very excited about introducing it to Northern Nevada,” said Dr. Chris Dolan said, who, along with Dr. Kieckbusch, has been using the Conformis technology in knee replacement surgeries since 2016.

Conformis is a medical technology company that uses its proprietary iFit Image-to-Implant technology platform to develop, manufacture and sell joint replacement implants that are designed and manufactured to fit and conform to each patient’s unique anatomy.  For more information, visit www.conformis.com.
